ONE YEAR AND THANK YOU

ONE YEAR AND THANK YOU

Today marks the first year anniversary of Devitera trading (actually the first sale).  Kirk bought a t-shirt and it made everything real.  It wasn’t a beer, sadly none were available at that point, but it was a sale.  Many didn’t believe I would make it that far, much was against me, and at times I doubted myself.

One year later Devitera has grown.  Lot’s has happened and if you’re reading this you are part of the story.  You don’t have to “buy” to support, but it helps :), so thank you!  The year has been fun, hard, challenging, emotional, exhilarating , stressful, and rewarding all at once (apparently starting a business does that)!

A helping hand!

There’s been lots of first, actually everything are firsts.  From cleaning the toilet (this does require planning :)), learning to sell, marketing the brand, brewing on large kit, having a gazebo at events that doesn’t take off when it’s windy (still working on this), having a till float, having point-of-sale.  The list goes on and on.

I’m the little chap second from the left

We started in September 2017 with exactly zero outlets and as I write this I’m proud of not only the number, but the quality of outlets (and there are more to come).  Devitera is on narrow boats, independent butchers, off-licenses, and now a Michelin star restaurant.  It’s available across Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, and as far afield as Luton!

Devitera was initially bottled beer only, and we have slowly expanded into casks.  I’ve had to learn how to tap and deliver casks, not quite as easy as you might think, and Devitera is now available in some of the best pubs in the area.

I’ve made sooooo many mistakes I can’t even beginning to count them.  I put it all down to experience, learn fast, and keep moving.  I’ve had events that didn’t pay, recipe scaling issues, and the challenges of establishing completely new sales channels.

I’ve had great luck with some of my marketing and PR campaigns, including local press coverage, a visit from my MP, and a public talk about Devitera.

Sometimes things go wrong no matter what you do.  Sometimes good things just happen, and you can’t explain why.  I’m a better person, more in the world, and truly living life (if not slightly scared all the time).

Too much fun!!!

Thank you to each and every one of you who has supported me, read this blog, and bought Devitera beer.  Little things make a big difference so THANK YOU.  The wolf is still here!
