IN THE LAND OF THE GIANTS

IN THE LAND OF THE GIANTS

Last week was a key milestone with The Rt Hon Claire Perry MP visiting my microbrewery for the first time.  Now this is a lady used to visiting large sweeping industrial facilities and talking in the House of Commons.  What would she make of Devitera?  In fact how do you even address an MP?

ARRIVAL

Well when Mrs. Perry arrived she immediately put me at ease and knew all the right things to ask to put you at ease.  I was also fortunate enough to be joined by my friend, and together we entertained with our stories of how Devitera beer is made.  From grain, through the production processes, to a labelled beer bottle.  Every single bottle is hand-made and unique!

THE MILESTONE

The reason this was a milestone was it has been about a two year journey from a corporate clone to running my business, and Mrs. Perry has been there all the way.  I started writing to her early on, and expected to be running much sooner.  However I finally made it, and to be able to show her around, what’s been achieved, and hand her bottles of beer is significant for me and Devitera.

Mrs. Perry also had with her some work experience students which was great to see, and I remember doing similar things myself when I was at school (nothing as glamorous mind).  The crazy thing was as we stood for the press photo I felt small.  Why?  Because EVERYONE was taller than me and I’ve never considered myself short.  Even looking at the picture now it makes me smile!  Apparently the chap next to me was only 17!!!  I barely reached his shoulder

FINALLY

I speak as I find and found Mrs. Perry extremely friendly and warm.  She has continued to correspond with me during my start-up journey, supported me, and visited my microbrewery.  For anyone thinking of starting your own business I would say write to your MP.  They will not bite….well maybe some do but not in Devizes 🙂
